Orlando ranks No. 3 in Florida for transportations jobs

Orlando ranks No. 3 in the state and No. 32 in the nation for transportation and warehouse sector jobs.

The Orlando metro area has 28,375 employees in the transportation industry with a local pay per employee of $39,900. In addition, Orlando had 1,310 businesses in the transportation and warehouse sector in 2009, the most recent data available.

Statewide, South Florida topped the list with 78,936 employees in the transportation industry, followed by Jackonsville with 28,995 employees. Tampa (21,056) and Lakeland (11,360) followed Orlando to round out the top five in transportation jobs in Florida.

There are 186,600 transportation and warehousing firms in 857 metropolitan and micropolitan areas across the nation, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Nationwide, New York ranks first for transportation and warehouse sector jobs with 282,504 employees, followed by Los Angeles (174,910 employees), Chicago (167,560), Dallas (121,822) and Houston (108,029).
