PFT: Harbaugh says Reed will report to camp

Panthers Rivera FootballAP

Panthers center Ryan Kalil rallied the fan base with a full-page ad in the Charlotte Observer declaring that the Panthers will be the Super Bowl XLVII champions.? (One person pointed on Twitter that Kalil misspelled ?Packers.?)

Ultimately, Kalil was behaving like a fan, and that?s the kind of behavior the fans love.

His coach loves it, too.

?I?m right behind [Kalil],? Ron Rivera said, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.? ?I feel the same way.? This is a group of men who, if they work hard and put it on themselves, the sky can be the limit.? But, we?ve got to go out and do it now to become the football team that has a chance to win every Sunday.?

Rivera thinks it?s important for players to possess that kind of enthusiasm.

?[I]f we don?t have 53 guys with that attitude in our locker room right now, then we gotta find the guys that want it,? Rivera said.? ?We don?t know what?s going to happen.? But we gotta come out and play and play hard and do everything we can to win that Super Bowl and they have the right attitude, that right mental frame of mind and that?s what Ryan?s done.? Ryan?s put it out there, like, ?Hey.? This is my mental outlook, this is my frame of mind.? This is what I want, so let?s go out and get it.??

Linebacker Jon Beason agrees.? ?You can?t put the carriage before the horse,? Beason told Rapaport.? ?But I love it.? I?ve been saying that for a while now.? The first step to reality is kinda the belief.? Having that confidence in what you?re doing, and now it?s all about the preparation.?

So why am I celebrating Kalil when in the past I?ve criticized guys like Rex Ryan and Mike Vick for doing pretty much the same thing?? With a contending team, that kind of talk comes off as presumptuous and crass.? With a team not widely viewed as a Super Bowl contender, talk like that demonstrates and develops the kind of confidence that can make an otherwise fringe team contend.

In this context, it comes off not as arrogance but as an expression of determination.? The kind of determination that, not long ago, simply didn?t exist in Charlotte.

Kalil will have a chance to elaborate or to backtrack on Thursday, when he appears on the final PFT Live before we take a break in deference to something called the Olympics.? I?m willing to predict he won?t be backtracking.

Marine Corps creates law enforcement battalions

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) ? The Marine Corps has created its first law enforcement battalions ? a lean, specialized force of military police officers that it hopes can quickly deploy worldwide to help investigate crimes from terrorism to drug trafficking and train fledgling security forces in allied nations.

The Corps activated three such battalions last month. Each is made up of roughly 500 military police officers and dozens of dogs. The Marine Corps has had police battalions off and on since World War II but they were primarily focused on providing security, such as accompanying fuel convoys or guarding generals on visits to dangerous areas, said Maj. Jan Durham, commander of the 1st Law Enforcement Battalion at Camp Pendleton.

The idea behind the law enforcement battalions is to consolidate the military police and capitalize on their investigative skills and police training, he said. The new additions come as every branch in the military is trying to show its flexibility and resourcefulness amid defense cuts.

Marines have been increasingly taking on the role of a street cop along with their combat duties over the past decade in Iraq and Afghanistan, where they have been in charge of training both countries' security forces. Those skills now can be used as a permanent part of the Marine Corps, Durham said.

The war on terror has also taught troops the importance of learning how to gather intelligence, secure evidence and assist local authorities in building cases to take down criminal networks. Troops have gotten better at combing raid sites for clues to help them track insurgents.

They also have changed their approach, realizing that marching into towns to show force alienates communities. Instead, they are being taught to fan out with interpreters to strike up conversations with truck drivers, money exchangers, cellphone sellers and others. The rapport building can net valuable information that could even alert troops about potential attacks.

But no group of Marines is better at that kind of work than the Corps' military police, who graduate from academies just like civilian cops, Durham said. He said the image of military police patrolling base to ticket Marines for speeding or drinking has limited their use in the Corps. He hopes the creation of the battalions will change that, although analysts say only the future will tell whether the move is more than just a rebranding of what already existed within the Corps.

The battalions will be capable of helping control civil disturbances, handling detainees, carrying out forensic work, and using biometrics to identify suspects. Durham said they could assist local authorities in allied countries in securing crime scenes and building cases so criminals end up behind bars and not back out on the streets because of mistakes.

"Over the past 11 years of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, some lessons learned painfully, there has been a growing appreciation and a demand for, on the part of the warfighter, the unique skills and capabilities that MPs bring to the fight," Durham said. "We do enforce traffic laws and we do write reports and tickets, and that's good, but we do so much more than that."

Durham said the Marine Corps plans to show off its new battalions in Miami later this month at a conference put on by the Southern Command and that is expected to be attended by government officials from Central American countries, such as Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Belize.

Defense analyst Loren Thompson said the battalions make sense given the nature of today's global threats, which include powerful drug cartels and other criminal gangs that often mix with religious and political extremists, who use the profits to buy their weaponry.

"This is a smart idea because the biggest single problem the Marines have in dealing with low-intensity types of threats is that they basically are trained to kill people," he said. "It's good for the Marines to have skills that allow them to contain threats without creating casualties."

Gary Solis, a former Marine Corps prosecutor and judge who teaches law of war at Georgetown University, said Marines have already been doing this kind of work for years but now that it has been made more formal by the creation of the battalions, it could raise a host of questions, especially on the use of force. The law of war allows for fighters to use deadly force as a first resort, while police officers use it as a last resort.

If Marines are sent in to do law enforcement but are attacked, will they go back to being warfighters? And if so, what are the implications? Solis asked.

"Am I a Marine or a cop? Can I be both?" he said. "Cops apply human rights law and Marines apply the law of war. Now that it's blended, it makes it tougher for the young men and women who have to make the decision as to when deadly force is not appropriate."

Durham said that military police understand that better than any Marine since they are trained in both.

"They are very comfortable with the escalation of force," he said. "MPs get that. It's fundamental to what we do."

Genealogy's Star: Signing in to FamilySearch.org and Family Tree

I get a lot of questions about signing in to FamilySearch.org. In order to sign in, you must first register. It is not necessary to sign in at all to view most of the resources on FamilySearch.org. Family Tree is one exception. You must register and sign in to even see the link to Family Tree in your browser. There is also a major ambiguity on the FamilySearch.org start up page. There are two "Tree" links. Here is a screen shot showing the two different links:

The link entitled "Trees" goes to a search screen to search primarily the Ancestral File and the International Genealogical Index (IGI). You will not find anything on Family Tree using this link.

The second link is entitled Family Tree and it only appears after you register, sign in and are linked to Family Tree. Clicking on that link takes you to the Family Tree program.

Registering is a rather simple process but to do so efficiently, you need some basic information. If you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Church), you need your membership number and your birth date to register for an LDS Account. You will also need an active email address. You can register without an email address, but you will not be able to collaborate or communicate with other users of Family Tree without an email address. All other users, can register for a FamilySearch Account with a name and an email address.

The only difference in viewing the website between members and those who do not register as members, is that LDS Temple ordinance information is not visible to those who are not members.

As a side note, there are a few collections in the FamilySearch.org Historical Record Collections that require you to sign in to view the records. This is due to limitations placed on the records by the original repositories and not a requirement from FamilySearch per se.

It is important to understand that no one owns their genealogical data. If you post data to the Internet, anyone can use that data with impunity. Do not post personal family information you do not wish to share with the world.

Once you are registered, you do not automatically see the Family Tree link. You have to be connected to Family Tree. Some users have experienced difficulty in viewing Family Tree. You may wish to read the comments to my prior posts on this subject for some discussion of the problems encountered. Please feel free to contact FamilySearch through the Help menu for assistance. It appears to me that most of the viewing problems stem from not completing the registration process, especially setting your preferences.

Here is the link to the document explaining how to link to Family Tree. The document is at the bottom of the page and is called Gaining Access to the FamilySearch Family Tree (pdf).

Flea Markets & Yard Sales: Your Home Improvement Confusion ...

Almost every homeowner has thought of a home improvement that they want to perform. They could attest that there's a fine line when it comes to failing and succeeding, especially if the homeowner is not experienced enough. Take the time to read this article for help in preparing for a successful home renovation project.

If one of your windows requires a new screen, but you are unable to locate a replacement that fits, consider how simple it is to just make one of your own. The kits made for screen replacement offer you the ease of cutting the correct size frame, using cording to attach the screen and getting it done in minutes. Many windows need a certain screen, but with the right kind of adapters, you will be able to use an external screen.

|A ceiling fan is a wonderful addition to any room. Ceiling fans are fairly inexpensive and simple to install. Ceiling fans are friendly to your wallet, since the air circulation can mean less air conditioner usage.

|Build a bar in your basement. Homeowners will derive pleasure from designing the bar, as well as actually watching the project unfold before their eyes. No matter the chosen method, constructing a bar is a great home improvement project.

|Take into consideration how long each home improvement project lasts. A brand new chimney will last you around 100 years. A deck in the backyard, however, may last for 15 years or fewer. A vinyl floor can last between 20 and 30 years, which seems like a long time until you consider the fact that oak flooring can easily last a century. Think about these facts as you weigh the costs and benefits of a particular project.

|If your central air or heating system is more than seven years old, it is probably time to consider an update. Some central heating and air systems can cut down the amount of electricity it uses by up to twenty percent. Additionally, newer systems run quieter.

|Hire a chimney sweep to regularly clean and inspect your chimney. This is especially important when you burn wood, but all heat sources require a clean and operable means of venting. Toxic fumes could build up in your home or a chimney fire could occur.

|One of the best ways to cut down your winter heating costs is to take the time to give your attic proper insulation. Because hot air inevitably rises, in the colder months poorly-insulated homes are letting huge amounts of heated air escape wastefully. Most hardware stores carry insulation, and its installation is very simple.

|Take a look at TV shows about home improvement, sample catalogs, and interior design magazines to build up a fund of home improvement ideas. While you may not even be ready to launch your project quite yet, clipping and saving things that appeal to you can make life easier when you do start to work. Also, you can spread out your required project purchases over time in order to make it easier to bear the expense.

|Before you try to remove your popcorn ceiling, have it tested to make sure there is not asbestos in it. Because the asbestos is highly toxic when disturbed, removing it and disposing of the material is a high risk job. If you find out that your ceiling contains asbestos, you might have to have the ceiling professionally removed by a crew with the proper safety equipment.

|Add newness to any room by adding accessories. It's truly amazing the amount of difference a few bright pillows or a new wall hanging can make in a room. Try buying dramatic curtains and adding a unique sculpture. Change out your old lamps. Buy a new centerpiece for your coffee table. Changing small things can make a big difference.

|If you want to save money, then consider getting a drain snake. This will save you some cash on drain cleaners and plumbers in the future. A drain snake should not be used by someone who is inexperienced, so ask a plumber to show you the right way to use it. Make sure the snake is the correct size, or you may damage your pipes when you use it.

|Use aluminum foil to cover electrical outlets prior to painting. Aluminum foil is a lot easier to use than tape, and it will protect the covers from unintentional splatters. Cleanup is easy! Make sure your paint is fully dry before removing the foil.

|You can do an inexpensive remodel in your kitchen just by refinishing your cabinets instead of buying new ones. You can use some paint on the base and add new finishing knobs to really update the look. At a very low cost, you can update the whole look of your kitchen.

|When you start a new home improvement project, be careful that you don't demolish things too quickly. Always check structural integrity behind walls, cabinets and other places well before you tear them down. It can be very expensive to fix any electrical components that are damaged during the making of home improvements.

|If you live in a hurricane zone, look into purchasing hurricane socks. An entire gallon of water can be absorbed in one of the socks. Place hurricane socks at entryways to protect your home from flood damage.

Gutters that are not protected need repetitive cleaning, which can waste your time. Install gutter guards to help cut down on cleaning time. With these screens in place, leaves will rarely cause problems and water drainage should not be impeded. The guards will eliminate the need to constantly clean your gutters, for they only require minimal maintenance.

|Plant some flowers outside. Find ones appropriate for the season. You should also trim the hedges and bushes and keep the lawn looking nice. These small improvements make your home look much more attractive.

|Your paint cans could do with a few holes in their rims. A common problem that occurs with paint cans is that paint spills from the can as the lid is replaced, thanks to a channel in the can. Use nails and drill holes in order to solve this problem.

|Avoid using carpeting in high-traffic areas, as you will inevitably lose money on it. In just one muddy, rainy season, carpet areas with a lot of foot traffic will show a lot more wear and tear than the carpeting in other parts of your house. You will surely need to put in new carpet within a short period of time. That's why it's better to install rugged materials, such as linoleum, in these areas.

|When doing any repair work or home improvement project, debris will be generated. It is therefore necessary to designate a space for the debris. Removing debris can cost a good chunk of change, and developing a storage plan in advance can help keep costs down and will make sure your project can continue with no delays.

|Ask family and friends for help with your home improvement project. It might be hard to get the assistance you need once you have gotten started. This can result in delays to your home improvement project.

|Adding a coat of paint to your home's walls is a fast and rejuvenating change that doesn't break the budget. You can browse through the different color options by checking out paint chips at the hardware store. Look for ones that excite you or inspire you, and dive right in! If it ends up being an eyesore, it is easy to paint over it.

|Crown molding can add a remarkable effect to walls. Crown moldings can add interest to plain, flat, boring walls. Crown molding is simple to install and doesn't cost you a small fortune.

|A great time to take on big home improvement project is while the real estate market is experiencing a housing slump. Homeowners can save much money on large home improvement projects during a housing market slump due to contractors searching for work. Home improvements do not expire. Furthermore, any project undertaken during a recession or weakened market will only add greater value at a later date.

|A few coats of paint in new color is the best way to revitalize and brighten your home. A whole room can look better with new paint. Although painting a room could be cheap, it could drastically change your house's value. Use colors that are light and match your home decor.

|To save money on your improvement projects, tackle anything you know how to do on your own. You can save lots of money doing home improvement projects on your own. After all, you could pay a professional upwards of $50 an hour to work on your house. If you do it yourself, you can be proud of a job well done.

|Ceramic tile can be used in kitchens and bathrooms. Tiles can be used to create unique and artistic designs, or you could simply go with a dazzling solid color to give your room a well-coordinated appearance. Ceramic tiling can improve the decor in these rooms tenfold.

|For a home improvement that offers an outstanding return, replace your outdated entry door with a steel front door. Research shows that homeowners gained back 129% of steel door installation costs upon selling their home. Steel doors also make your house more attractive and energy-efficient.

|Keep your eyes out for some inspiration when working on your home. Head to your favorite decorating site or an old-fashioned library to get ideas quickly. You can get some color swatches and fabric samples. Spend the time finding out what you really like, so you are prepared for the project when it is time to start the work.

|You don't need to live in a mansion to own a chandelier. A good chandelier that stands out in any home can be bought for less than five hundred dollars. To really brighten up your fixture, try and get a total wattage of at least 200.

When you are planning home improvement projects, it can be useful to look around for some inspiration. Head to your favorite decorating site or an old-fashioned library to get ideas quickly. Gather together a good collection of fabric swatches, carpet samples and color chips. If you have a good idea of what you want, you can confidently begin work on your project when you are ready.

|If you are renovating a bathroom, keep handicapped people in mind when you are redesigning the space. It's not necessary to fit all of the specialized equipment right away, but you can make preparations that will be very useful if you stick with the same house as you grow older. Most improvements will add value when it comes time to sell your home.

|When you are looking for a contractor, ensure you have a signed contract that includes all components to the job. You should also have a guarantee on how you will pay and when it will be done.

|Turn off water at all times, when you need to deal with pipes. It is vital to be aware of where your house's water shutoffs are placed, so that you could turn the water off if ever you are working on a plumbing system.

|If you are running out of counter space in your kitchen, consider an over-the-range microwave. Over-the-range microwave ovens offer many features, including convection cooking. They are especially good for cooks who aren't too focused on ventilation, as they use a recirculating filter only.

|Today, there is a new danger to look out for during home improvement projects. Avoid purchasing drywall (i.e. sheet rock, wall board) manufactured in China. Much of the sheet rock used in construction in the US has been imported from China since 2005. A lot of the drywall is not up to par. Sometimes, it's even dangerous and exudes dangerous gases that cause damage to internal wiring.

|One of the most fun projects that you can do for your home can actually involve your whole family, including children. A well maintained garden can really increase your home's value.

|Use analogous color schemes when renovating a restful part of your house. These colors are side by side on the color wheel; orange and red, yellow and green, as well as blue and violet are all good examples. A room with this type of color scheme is relaxing; therefore, it is best suited in a bedroom.

|When you are making exterior improvements, be sure to add a coat of paint and some decks. These are improvements that always add to the value of your home. Decks are attractive, as they make it a great place to host guests or to just have a drink in the warm weather.

|Some tools you need are a ratchet, rubber mallet, chisels, and a step ladder. Overall, you may never need to use these items. But they're affordable and they will help save the day when you're ready to make improvements.

|You need to give a thought to the context of your neighborhood before you engage in extensive remodeling work. If you have a home that is in the Victorian style in a neighborhood full of smaller cottages, it will stick out. Your resale value may be affected if the renovation is not in line with the surrounding homes.

|If you have an attic, insulate it to save on winter heating costs. Heat naturally rises, which means tons of heat will escape from a poorly-insulated attic, especially during the colder months. You should be able to find quality insulation in most hardware stores and installing it yourself should not be too hard.

|Replacing existing flooring is an easy way to update the look of your entire space. Even though new flooring often carries a higher price tag, the expense more than pays for itself over time or when you go to sell your home. Replacing old carpet with wood or tile can create a new look and add value that will last for years.

|Think about what you can afford before making any decisions about what to improve. These renovations will have to be paid for within two years if they are going to be financially feasible. Do not exceed those guidelines!

|Check your quotes, not just for price, but also for presentation. Look to see if the quotes are on professional letterhead. For instance, if it's just some cheap printed paper, the company probably isn't very professional. On the flip side, if you're looking at a high-quality letterhead, then you're looking at a company that takes itself seriously. Of course, you still need to do other research, but dealing only with companies that use professional letterhead is a good start.

It is important to have clear idea of the cost of all supplies needed before you begin work on a home improvement project. Many things can be bought in bulk which will save money. A lot of the equipment and the materials used in some projects take a long time to procure. Making sure you have your materials ready can save you frustration and time when you are ready to do your home improvement.

|When you replace your windows with energy efficient ones, you are conserving energy as well as money. This is a great home improvement project, because it adds so much value in so many ways.

|Are there trees and large shrubs very close to your house? It raises the chance that roots will make their way to the foundation of your home and cracks will develop which can cause leaks. It is best to plant everything father away so you do not have to deal with this later on. Most trees can be transplanted as long as the root ball is intact and the tree is not too large.

|Make simple and inexpensive improvements to the exterior of your home. Try to improve your home's exterior by moving the lawn and trimming your hedges. Plant some shrubs and make sure they are well placed. Sweep your walkway. Spray down your house to wash away dust and grime that age your home. Windows should have a nice shine to add to the appeal of your living space. These acts leave your visitors with a good first impression.

|When you tackle your improvement project, be careful to not demolish too quickly. It is essential to investigate what is behind your walls prior to tearing them out. If there is an electrical component involved, there is a possibility you might have to end up spending a lot if you make a mistake.

|Before you begin a home-improvement project, it is vital that you get an accurate estimate of what it will cost you. Many homeowners grossly underestimate the money involved in improvements and this mistake can be very costly. Get more than one estimate and make sure you also plan for any unforeseen complications.

|When planning any home improvement project, it is important to consider how any unwanted debris will be disposed of. If you renovate or demolish any area of your home, you will find that you produce a considerable amount of trash. At the start of the project, you should set aside a space for this to be stored.

|One way to reduce the garbage you create is to develop a compost pile. To make a compost, simply reserve an area in your yard and put in items like fruit peels, eggshells, and coffee grounds into it for compost. This means that you will have less trash, and if your community charges you by the bag, this can be a big cost saving.

|Don't forget to cover your floors when you paint. Taking this precaution will save you from wet paint staining carpets or floors. Layer old newspapers for an inexpensive floor covering. Plastic sheeting or purpose-made drop cloths can also be used to keep paint off your floors.

|Installing new ceramic tile in the kitchen or bath can be quick and easy. The designs can be unique or you can try modern, simplistic ones with a full solid color. Ceramic tiles not only look nice but can also add quite a bit to your home's value as well.

|An easy way to lern more about home improvement projects is to take a class at a nearby home improvement type of store. Because they want you to buy materials from them, large home improvement stores offer courses on many types of projects, such as installing tile flooring and painting your walls. It's a good idea to take advantage of these classes before starting on home improvement projects.

|If your home improvement job is big enough to call for the services of a professional contractor, it's vital that you have a formal, written contract that defines the scope of the work and the budget. The contract should also include a timeline of project completion dates and a detailed payment plan.

|A great way to make your kitchen more functional is to reorganize the pantry. Toss out spices and food that is too old, as well as old canned goods. Wipe down all shelves and put down new liner paper. When you put your foods back into the pantry, sort them by function and group similar items together. You will save time and have a fresh and clean pantry area that is a delight to use.

|To improve your bathroom's appearance, try using a new glaze. A new glaze will make your fixtures look brand new. Replacing your bathroom's fixtures or floors can cost a lot of money, but it usually doesn't take more than a couple hundred bucks to glaze a bathroom. Glazing your fixtures will up your value and you will save money while doing it.

|Before undertaking any major improvements around your home, make certain you consider the space required for accumulating debris. A big mess results when demolition takes place, and you must put the debris somewhere. Make sure you have figured out ahead of time where all the debris will be placed so that you do not end up with a big pile of stuff in your way while you are trying to work.

To make your kitchen a more functional space, clean out your pantry and organize it. Get rid of anything that is old or out-of-date. Clean the shelves and install fresh liner paper. You can then group together things when you put your items back in. This way you will know where everything is.

|Before undertaking any major improvements around your home, make certain you consider the space required for accumulating debris. When you begin to demolish areas, this creates quite a large mess that has to be put somewhere. By finding space for it beforehand, you will not have to deal with a lot of debris getting in the way.

|When looking for help when it comes to renovating your house, you need to make sure that you ask your friends if they are available if ever the person you employ is not doing a good job. It's simply always better to have an out. Even if they're not helping you, it's best to have them on retainer. This is true in this situation.

|Be sure you follow proper safety. You may think a hardhat is not necessary for a little home project, but there are a lot of things that can injure your head. Having goggles, a breathing apparatus and hardhat will help keep you safe.

|Redecorate in a cost efficient way by painting. If you can not afford the big projects, you can easily refresh a room with paint. Painting a room can totally change the atmosphere of it, even more so if the new color is completely different from the old. And the best part about a paint job is that it's very easy to change if you don't like the results after a while.

|When hiring contractors to do work in your house, you must make sure they are insured. If they aren't and they damage your home, you can not be sure they will repair their damages. All you must do is to find a contractor and ask for their proof of insurance.

|Choose one room to work on at a time. There's no reason you have to tear up every room in your home simultaneously; it can be easier and more affordable to go room-by-room. You should plan ahead and look for price deals on required project items. Planning your home improvement projects in advance can help you to save more money in the long run.

|Make certain all caulking is up to par. Every now and then, you should inspect the caulking surrounding sinks and bathtubs. Many people are affected by respiratory problems due to mold growing in their home If a significant amount of water leaks through these cracks and holes, it can eventually rot the floor, causing structural issues. Before applying the new caulk, remove all of the old caulk. Next, remove all built-up moisture from the area. This ensures that the replacement caulk bonds properly. This is essential for forming a water-resistant seal.

|If a contractor will be performing your project, keep records. Do not rely on the contractor to handle this for you. Keep a copy of any invoices and signed agreements that are generated as a result of the project. This helps you and the contractor stay focused on the job.

|Try something different rather than a simple pre-made coffee table. Something unlikely, like an old chest, can be used a great coffee table. Put some high-brow magazines, coffee table books, and interesting decorations like geodes on the table to spice it up. You can do some amazing treatments, like throwing on a table cloth with a tea set for a countrified style.

|Try painting the inside or outside of your home. With the stroke of a brush, you can clean and brighten instantly or add a new shade to give a room a completely redesigned look. If you're tired of certain pieces of furniture, try painting them and replacing handles or knobs for a pleasing effect.

|Which room do you want to work on first? Remember, it is not crucial to improve everything at the same time; you can work on one room and then move to the next. Before beginning any home improvement project, write out a detailed plan so you can keep a watch out for sales on the items you need. Planning ahead is a smart way for you to save money when you are improving your home.

|It is very important that the contractor estimates you get are all based on the exact same work to be done. Make a list of everything that you will need the contractor to do, and make sure not to add or take anything off when getting the estimates. If your list changes, you will not be able to accurately compare the prices you are given.

|Give your home furnishings and accessories a thorough dusting weekly. Dust can quickly accumulate. Cleaning your home thoroughly once a week is also a good way to get rid of parasites and to keep everything looking nice.

|Whenever you're remodeling your bathroom, you may want to refinish your tub instead of having the entire thing replaced. If your tub has a porcelain coating, there are people that specialize in doing this for you. Even if you have a stainless steel or tile tub, it can be refinished to save some money. Water damage is the only thing that makes replacing these items an absolute necessity; if it's not present, refinishing them instead can save a lot of money.

Weather stripping can greatly increase your windows' efficiency. This helps to seal your home from hot and cold, improving your comfort level as well. This may also help to eliminate feelings of draftiness around your doors and windows.

|A simple and inexpensive way to give a new look to any room is to purchase and install new outlet covers. As time goes on, your outlet covers will grow old and begin to look discolored. By replacing those old ones with new ones, your interiors are brightened up a bit, which can result in an overall fresher look.

|If a contractor offers you a cash discount, you need to choose a different one. You want to have a paper trail, and paying with cash prevents that from happening which can hurt you if he decides to quit the job midway through.

|Your kitchen can look different without spending lots of money on cabinet replacement. Painting can make a huge difference. There are many interesting finishes you can apply to your cabinets. Research different techniques and be creative: you could for instance use sand paper to give an old and rustic look to your cabinets.

|Replacing old blinds can really improve your windows and the way they look. The blinds often fade out due to exposure to the sun and also become damaged by children, pets, and other accidents. It is easy to install new blinds and they will make your windows shine.

|Get new appliances and save on your utility bills. When you upgrade outdated and inefficient appliances, your new, energy-saving models may pay for themselves in no time. Appliance installation is also relatively simple, making this a quick and effective home improvement option.

|Is your home drafty and cold? On the market these days are quite a few products that actually use air as an insulator. Air? Sounds strange, doesn't it? It is a lot like bubble wrap. Air is pre-pumped into the cushions, which are then attached to your home's walls and ceilings. If you need better insulation, this is an effective and low-cost way to solve the problem.

|Consider starting your projects in the kitchen. Thorough cleaning is the right way to start. Use a solution of two parts TSP to one part water to scrub the walls and remove grease stains. You can get off any dirt or grease. Painting your kitchen in a warm neutral color, like tan, will give you a great new look.

|Make sure that you utilize all the space in a home when you plan to sell it. Place the appropriate accessories and furniture in each room. This can give the buyers a great idea of how they would use this space upon purchase. A house with properly defined spaces is a more appealing prospect, and will generally find a buyer faster.

|Pay your contractor according to the tasks they complete, rather than an hourly or daily rate. This gives you the power to remove the contractor from the project if the work is not up to par to what you want without them requesting money due to incomplete projects.

|If you're planning to use conventional wood in heating you house, understand that this might not be a good thing to do. Apart from reasons related to aesthetics, this system could be inefficient due to the heat having to go through the chimney. In addition to this, the fire requires plenty of fresh air, which will be provided from within your house, essentially eating up much of the oxygen inside your home.

|A good time to do remodeling or add space to your home is during a real estate recession. Because contractors are lacking enough work in a bad economy, they often charge less for working on large projects. There is no expiration on home improvements. Once the housing market becomes better, renovations will hold more value.

|Add a fresh coat of paint either inside or outside the house. One coat of paint may spruce up the look of your home and alter the shading elements. Paint your furniture and skirting boards as well for more new looks.

|Clean your siding with a pressure washer combined with a cleaning solution. You can rent a pressure washer at most home improvement stores, and it can be a very effective way of making your house look new and dirt free. Take care near the line of the roof and around windows. You do not want to create another project!

|While home improvements require an initial investment, many can actually save you money over time. New appliances can help you save on electricity. Fixing a roof and upgrading insulation reduces heating costs Make financial planning and looking ahead a constant habit.

Light green, light blue, and other light colors can give your rooms a peaceful effect. Use cottons and linens instead of dark brocades and heavy patterns. Put some potpourri atop the coffee table and have scented candles in order to create a tranquil heaven for yourself.

|Be creative with regards to home improvement and make sure you develop a solid plan. By doing this, once you've started a project, you can put your complete focus on the build, not on design decisions. Get inspired by family, friends, home improvement shows and magazines.

|When you want to replace your flooring, remember that it's very expensive to replace the entire floor throughout the home. One easy thing to do is simply remove the flooring that's in place and then apply stain in an attractive color to the concrete base. This type of look isn't for everyone, but in terms of a money-saving way to make home improvements, you can't beat it.

|Avoid leaving your drapes constantly open if your room is carpeted. Over time, the sunlight can bleach the carpet, leaving you with spots that are lighter where the sun shines on them most often. Wait until the sun isn't blazing in onto the floor before opening your drapes. You can also protect your carpet by placing furnishings in sunny spots.

|Porches need repainting at times. Make sure the paint you choose is of good quality. Just make sure the new paint has the same base; use oil over oil based and latex over water based paint. Use oil paint on trim; it will last for a long time but you should not use it outdoors on flooring.

|It is important to thoroughly dust your home weekly. It only takes a few days for dust to accumulate and for allergens to wreak havoc in your life. Dusting home accessories not only eliminates dust and allergens, it also discovers pests such as fleas, ants & spiders much sooner.

|Keep an eye out for sales on carpet installation by home-improvement stores. Some stores will offer free installation to boost their carpet sales. When you see this type of sale, it's time to have that new carpeting put in your home since full-priced installation can cost more than the carpet itself.

|There are a wide variety of screws used in home repair projects. Knowing which screw is right for the job is important to getting the job done correctly. When working with wood, ensure that you purchase the appropriate wood screws. When you are working with sheet metal, you should use the appropriate screws.

|Look online for video tutorials on your intended project, and be sure to use specific search terms. An amazing number of people may have already solved the same problem you are dealing with and posted their solution online. Viewing these videos allows you to learn from the experiences of others.

|It is important that you trust what your contractor tells you. If you researched a quality contractor, you should not be questioning his opinion. If your contractor tells you that a certain change will not look good, he is most likely speaking from experience. Understand that your budget may not be sufficient to achieve the desired results; trying to find a significantly cheaper contractor may mean sacrificing quality. You should trust in your contractor.

|Adding new flooring is a fantastic way to upgrade and update the appearance of any room. Good and reputable flooring companies can do wonders for your floor. Often, hardwood, laminate, carpeting and even tile, can be installed in a day! Or you can look at DIY options at your home improvement store.

|Some handy items that you should have in your basic arsenal are a step ladder, a handyman bag or belt, a standard and metric ratchet set, a rubber mallet, and a set of chisels. Although these aren't essential for every project, they are helpful to have available when needed.

|Consider bringing enhanced lighting to either bathrooms or kitchens through new lighting fixtures. Track lights with outdated can lights can be replaced with sleeker, more aesthetically pleasing lights for less than a thousand bucks. Think about putting in pendant lights; these are very modern and appealing.

|Think about putting in matching metal fixtures if you want to change the look of your bathroom. You can buy bathroom fixtures such as towel racks and cabinet knobs in all kinds of different styles. Many home improvement stores offer these fixtures as part of a complete, coordinating package, that can easily be installed in a single day.

|When you do a large project on your house, be transparent on the budget with your contractor. If your contractor knows your budget up front, he can use the best materials that fall within your price range. They will also know to get the most value for their dollar. The great thing about this is both parties win.

When your home improvement project is geared toward increasing resale value, look first to your porch. Visitors' eyes are immediately drawn to this area. Add appeal with fresh paint and a bench, potted plants or antique replicas. This could raise the value for your home tremendously. Simple renovations can yield great results if you do them properly.

|Take advantage of the first few months in the year to plan your home improvement budget. When you are still reeling from holiday expenses, you are more likely to plan conservatively. Money adds an unwanted bit of extra stress, especially when working with a less than ideal budget, so it's best just to wait.

|Prior to adding paint to your walls, cover up each electrical outlet cover with a small sheet of aluminum foil. It is far easier to use aluminum foil than tape, and your covers will be shielded from possible splatters. Cleanup is a snap! Just remember to give the paint time to dry before you remove and recycle the foil.

|A light color material is an excellent choice for a new roof. Black or dark brown tiles attract and absorb heat. Your attic will be cooler if you choose a light color for your new roof. This means you can actually go into your attic without feeling stifled by the scorching heat.

|You can make a big difference in the appearance of your front door with a little paint and a nice, clean welcome mat. Your guests will be impressed if the entrance of your home is inviting. Simple touches, such as a new welcome mat and bright potted plants, can give a good first impression.

|A floor lamp can be a great addition to the room and free up valuable space on a nightstand or dresser. Floor lamps are a moveable option that allows you to change their location to suit your needs and leave extra space on your counter tops. Pick a lamp that has a good design that you could appreciate.

|If you are planning major renovations around the home, consider hiring a professional to assist you in planning. The ideal project or renovation takes into account multiple non-decorative factors, including safety, efficiency and function. A professional designer can create meaningful plans that also meet safety restrictions and requirements.

|A great way to help make projects affordable is to set aside a budget for needs that arise. If you own a home, you should always put aside a certain amount of money every year to maintain your home. If money is leftover after the new year, you can use it for larger home improvement projects later.

|Sprucing up your kitchen cabinets is a great way to update your kitchen without a complete remodel. For a different look, you can simply replace the doors and hardware or paint the bases. This will modernize your kitchen without you having to spend a small fortune.

|Prior to purchasing hardwood flooring, ask a professional about the status of your existing floors. Often, there are beautiful hardwood floors hidden under layers of old linoleum and carpet. You could find beautiful wood floors just waiting to be found and refinished.

|There are a wide variety of home improvement options that can fit into just about any budget. If your budget does not allow for a large construction project, you can increase your home's value with smaller, inexpensive projects like repainting or residing your home.

|Get the advice of a professional before attempting any serious repairs yourself. A simple piece of advice from an expert can steer you away from making immensely frustrating (and costly!) mistakes. Always consult a professional when you are renovating your home for the best advice.

|There are many different flooring options out there to try if you need to replace your floor. Instead of looking at stone tile or even linoleum, you can look into vinyl self-adhesive flooring. It lasts for a long time, won't be affected by water and you can put it in yourself. You can buy vinyl as individual tiles or by the roll for large areas.

|When updating your roof, it is important to find a trustworthy roofer. Ensure you find out if the roofer is reputable before hiring them. Be sure to check with the Dept. of Consumer Affairs and the BBB before settling on a company. Check the company website to read reviews, as well.

|Is your home too drafty? There are now products that can use air as a way to insulate your home. Just common air. It works the same way bubble wrap functions in packaging. Air is pre-pumped into the cushions, which are then attached to your home's walls and ceilings. This is an inexpensive way to re-insulate your drafty house.

As mentioned in the introduction, a lot of people are interested in making home improvements, but find it too hard and quit. When you have the correct knowledge, home-improvement projects will not be that hard to get done. Keep this article's suggestions in mind and you'll be much better prepared for your next job.

Tablet Tribulations: OGT Weighs In On Its Ill-Fated Android Slate

ogt-erosCompetition in the tablet space has been heating up for a while now, and it?s not just the big guys that are feeling the strain. Take the tumultuous story of OGT Mobile, for instance -- they tried to make their mark on the industry by creating their own Android tablet, but just couldn't see the project through. I can?t blame you if you?ve never heard of OGT before ? back in April 2011 when the company revealed the Eros tablet, it made a few waves thanks to its claims of being the thinnest Android tablet in the world.

GURU Lies On product Launch | Online MLM Business Lead ...

So my brother called me today to inform me about another product launch today that will be aggressively promotedGURU Lies On product Launch in the next coming days. So I feel like ranting a little bit and it?s not meant to directly attack any Guru out there. Should you get side tracked these launches? Are there any values really by these daily launches that are all over the place?

Well lets just get something straight here. There is nothing new under the heaven. In other words, there nothing new that any Guru can teach you with their launches that you cannot do the research yourself and implement.

If you have time, go to Barns& Nobles and read up on any subjects like marketing, selling and even internet marketing as whole.

So if you already know this, why are you still spending money to buy these products? The answer is simple.

You are buying their time. These people have done their own research and implemented these tactics and are now teaching you what they have spend their time to researched and test.

So next time when you swipe your credit card to buy a $297 product that is just being launched, understand that you are simply paying for their time.

With that being said, I want you to think about these questions for a second;

If I know these magical secret that I can use right now to generate 300 leads everyday. Why would I want to teach you and 500 more people these secrets? So that we can both start competing with each other? OR because I need some instant money now that I can?t make from generating 300 leads a day?

Do you get where I am going with this?

If David (Guru or Not) knows the secret method to getting back on Google and generating thousands of leads, why would he want to teach such a method to the mass? So that Google can spank and slap everybody again?

Is there a chance that there is actually one or two things that the ?Guru? will leave out of the training in other for them to still maintain an edge over the mass?

AND NO, don?t give me that integrity BS. These top 1% money maker in the Internet Network Marketing world are there to make money. PERIOD. Nothing more and Nothing less.

I am just throwing these questions out there to stimulate your mind a little so that you can think a lot before you buy everything that you see the whole world promoting.

THE QUESTION TO ASK; Does this Product directly helps me with Traffic Generation/List Building, Email Marketing And Selling

Because in a nutshell, that is your Online business. Any product launch that does not directly helps you in these 3 major area of your business should not be entertained.

If you are already have access to hundred of hours of training on traffic generation, then why are you buying another traffic generation product launch? If you have access to hours of marketing training, why do you feel the need to build another marketing product launch?

In conclusion, there is no right or wrong answer to this. If you feel that you really need a product, then please by all means, buy that product and MAKE SURE that you implement whatever new knowledge you have acquired. But do not buy any product of hype. As tempting as it may be, you should be buying products for two reasons;

1. either you really need the product
2. or You want to learn new selling methods that is being implemented in the particular product launch

Motorola announces the RAZR V for Canada

RAZR V

Motorola really loves their RAZR line, thinking back years ago to the old flip phone, and then more recently to the remodeled device that was quickly outdone by the RAZR MAXX. Today Motorola has announced the Motorola RAZR V, which will be destined for Canada. Coming in at only 8.4mm the device is extremely thin, but being covered in DuPont Kevlar fiber it is also remarkably strong as well.

In addition to all the normal goodies we are used to seeing, Motorola has also included something very unique called SMARTACTIONS. These smart actions will make using the device even more of a pleasure, and easier on you as well. Your device will now be able to know when you plug headphones in that you want to launch a specific app or playlist, or change some device settings to help save battery when it is getting a bit low. The application can automate many daily tasks, and make things much easier on you, which is always a huge plus. The device is set to launch in Q3 in Canada, and should be available from many of the large retailers. Hit the break for the full release.

Wacom Bamboo stylus review

Wacom Bamboo

The Wacom Bamboo Stylus  is one of your best options for handwriting and drawing on your Android phone or tablet. It also is a great alternative to your greasy fingers for day to day navigation around the device.

We have all found, at one time or another, that touching the screen leaves fingerprints and grime on the screen. We have also found that our fingers are fat and clumsy when it comes to painting, making that masterpiece in Draw Something and writing.

So, we need something with a capacitive end or nib to touch the screen in a far more precise way to really take advantage of some of the newer apps.

Apps like Sketchbook Mobile, Note Everything and Handwrite will be used to judge the overall qualities of the stylus.

Read on for our full Wacom Bamboo stylus review!

Comcast sells A&E stake to Disney, Hearst for $3B

(AP) ? Comcast's NBCUniversal is selling its stake in A&E Television Networks to Disney and Hearst for $3.03 billion in cash.

Comcast Corp., which owns 15.8 percent of A&E, said Tuesday that it will sell its stake to Walt Disney Co. and Hearst Corp., its partners in the A&E joint venture.

The company said in May that it had exercised an option requiring Disney and Hearst to buy back a significant portion of their ownership in A&E.

A&E channels include the History Channel, Lifetime, Biography as well as its namesake network.

Comcast, a cable company based in Philadelphia, has a controlling interest in NBCUniversal and plans to acquire the remaining 49 percent stake held by General Electric Co.

Hearst is one of the largest media companies in the U.S., owning newspapers like the San Francisco Chronicle and magazines including Good Housekeeping and O, The Oprah Magazine. The company also operates 29 TV stations and holds a 20 percent stake in sports network ESPN.

Disney owns the rest of ESPN, along with a movie studio, more TV properties and theme parks.

Comcast shares dropped 6 cents to $31.22 in afternoon trading, while Disney stock fell 73 cents, or 1.5 percent, to $47.27.

Samsung EX2F point-and-shoot with f/1.4 lens hands-on (video)

Samsung EX2F pointandshoot with f14 lens handson video

We've been generally unimpressed with the latest round of basic point-and-shoots, including those from Samsung's mid-range Smart series, but we do tend to take heed whenever a manufacturer opts to focus on optics rather than bumping up the megapixel count to boost sticker appeal. Compared to sub-$200 shooters, there's a fairly limited market for $549 pocketable models -- a price point that often prompts would-be owners to dig beyond superficial specs in search of full manual control, solid high-ISO performance, fast focusing and a lens that enables both low-light shooting and shallow depth of field. Samsung's EX2F appears to fit the bill, offering a 12.4-megapixel 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor, a top extended ISO setting of 12,800, a 3-inch VGA-res AMOLED display and -- the crown jewel -- an f/1.4-2.7, 24-79mm lens. That optic delivers an additional stop of sensitivity over the EX2F's predecessor, the two-year-old TL500. Other advantages include a lighter magnesium alloy body, an NX power pin-enabled hot shoe for adding an external mic or flash, and a new micro-USB trigger cable.

Though the NX2F was noticeably lighter than the 2010 model during our hands-on, it retains much of the TL500's heft -- at least from a size perspective. The camera's footprint makes it too bulky to slip in a pocket, as we were able to do with the Sony RX100, though the flip-out AMOLED display is certainly a welcome addition. An NX-like smart UI mode enables instant access to key settings, as do the dual control dials, which let you adjust shooting modes (on the right) and capture speed (on the left). There's also a new in-camera HDR mode which merges two back-to-back shots (one underexposed and the other overexposed) in order to retain additional shadow and highlight detail. The camera was quite responsive during a quick shoot earlier today, powering on, focusing and capturing an image quickly. We'll need to spend much more time snapping outside of an office environment before passing any formal judgement, but it's easy to see the appeal of such of device -- and the advantage over less-abled point-and-shoots. For now, you can take a closer look in the gallery below, and in our hands-on demonstration after the break.
